Barnsley venue launches bands competition.
The Barnsley venue Lucorum is aiming to become Barnsley's brightest live music venue by joining forces with the University of Huddersfield and a local children's charity to launch South Yorkshire’s biggest ever "Battle of the Bands".
The venue, which recently came into new ownership, is launching the competition in conjunction with the University’s Barnsley music school to encourage Yorkshire bands to showcase their talents and aim for some fantastic prizes.
The competition, which will be Lucorum’s major promotion throughout April and May, will give 15 bands the opportunity to play in front of audiences of up to 800 people from across the region. The prizes on offer for the bands include two days studio time at the University’s state of the art recording facilities, professionally produced live performance DVDs and the opportunity to support a major act at one of Sheffield’s premier venues.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity for any band that’s gigging, looking to extend their fanbase and hone their skills” said John Silker, Lucorum’s new owner, “We’re joining forces with the University so that the students there can get experience of engineering and staffing live gigs and as a bonus all the door money will go to support SAFE@LAST a local children’s charity.”
Bands have until March 26th to get their entries in and should email battleofthebands.sy@mac.com or telephone Mark at the children’s charity SAFE@LAST on 01909 566977 for an entry pack. for more details see: www.myspace.com/sybattleofthebands or email: battleofthebands.sy@mac.com
