Idol Minds is a five-piece rock band consisting of drummer, bassist, rhythm guitarist, lead guitarist and singer.
Our band was formed when Lead Vocalist Sean James and Lead Guitarist Joshua Ingamells joined up with Bassist David Swithenbank, Drummer John Hobson and Guitarist James Hobson. The band became known as Idol Minds.
We started writing our own material and increased our repertoire of covers, influenced by artists from the 70�s and 80�s. Some of our covers include classic rock numbers such as Doctor Doctor by U.F.O, Paranoid by Black Sabbath and don�t believe a word by Thin Lizzy.
Seven weeks after Sean joined the band after being spotted singing on a kareoke, Idol Minds performed their first live gig at a local venue, the Arches. The gig went down well to an audience of over 300 people and gained us a strong local following. The fans have supported us ever since, at all of our gigs throughout the Barnsley, Sheffield and Leeds areas.
We recorded our first E.P at Cadman Lane recording studios in April 2003 and have sold out our CD�s to friends and fans at our gigs. We have entered various competitions throughout our local area. Including Shelly High School Battle Of The Bands, which we won. The prize was �1000 of recording time and radio airplay. We were also semi-finalists at Panama Joe�s Battle Of The Bands against other bands from the Barnsley area. We were the only amateur band to make it so far in the competition. These competitions have helped us to gain a stronger fan base and we are becoming increasingly popular in the Barnsley and surrounding areas.
Idol Minds have recently being chosen to be part of the Beaumont Street Studio / National Youth Music �Ready To Burn,� scheme. This involves the support of a mentor from the music industry and recording time with a professional producer. At the end of the scheme we get free studio time at Beaumont Street and gigs on a tour throughout the Yorkshire area.
We are currently writing new material and expanding our set list with more origional numbers written by the band members.
RECENTLY: Idol minds have now had a line up change, with a new second guitarist and drummer - Tom laffey and Paul Vardy.
We are now changing our set further and writting more material than ever before. The first few gigs with the line up went realy well and we are more confident than ever. As a band we hope to improve our musical skills and song writing techniques. Our shared ambition is to play larger venues and make our careers in music.
Recently just finished a two track demo at beaumont street studios in huddersfield - Produced by Pat Grogan.
